I’m writing to urge you in the strongest possible terms to vote NO on the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” just passed by the House. This bill is not only fiscally irresponsible—it’s dangerous for working families, retirees, and vulnerable Alaskans. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has made it clear: this bill would slash $715 billion from healthcare—mostly from Medicaid—and cut $300 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), throwing 2.7 million American households off vital food assistance. For Alaskans in rural communities and those living close to the edge, these cuts are devastating. And because the bill triggers mandatory offsets, it will cut Medicare by $500 billion, further threatening access to healthcare for seniors like us, just as we’re nearing retirement. We’ve worked hard, saved carefully, and contributed to this system our whole lives—we shouldn’t be asked to sacrifice our dignity so billionaires can get tax breaks. Economists say low- and middle-income Americans will lose hundreds to thousands of dollars per year under this bill—while the ultra-wealthy gain hundreds of thousands. That’s not economic policy; that’s exploitation. Meanwhile, this bill balloons funding for immigration enforcement to staggering levels—$45 billion for ICE detention and $46.5 billion for border walls—wasting resources on cruelty rather than compassion, deterrence rather than solutions. This isn’t border security; it’s political theater that undermines human rights and due process. Please stand up for Alaskans—not for corporate interests, not for authoritarian politics, and not for this dangerous agenda masquerading as fiscal reform. We need leadership rooted in integrity, decency, and common sense. Do not let this bill become law. Vote NO.
