Statement regarding poor gun safety by ICE in Roxbury
To: Rep. Kean
From: A verified voter in Budd Lake, NJ
February 13
A few weeks ago, I wrote to Representative Kean with some very specific concerns regarding my anxiety regarding the potential presence of ICE in our communities. Of the several points I covered, the most dire was the fear of unnecessary violence and/or threats of violence to our residents.
In return, I received a form letter outlining the congressman’s commitment to law and order assuring me that he follows the letter of the law. To whichever staffer composed that letter- well done. However, it would have been better had the staffer reflected the congressman’s actual feelings on the matter rather than personal and constitutional conjecture.
Earlier this week, videos were released showing an ICE action in the Landing section of Roxbury, NJ. ICE agents engaged in a chase that culminated in the use of firearms. While I was relieved to see that only tires were discharged on, I was absolutely shocked and disturbed to see that ICE agents drew their weapons and pointed them into the flow of traffic endangering the lives of resident commuters.
As the congressman assured us that these types of cowboy stunts would not occur in our community, I’ve been watching for an official statement condemning these acts but have seen none. Did I miss it? Or is there (more likely based on experience) none forthcoming? WE THE PEOPLE are watching.
