House Bill 804

To: Gov. Stein, Sen. Sawrey, Rep. Penny

From: A verified voter in Angier, NC

April 8

I am writing to express my strong opposition to House Bill 804, also known as the Human Life Protection Act of 2025. This bill, which seeks to prohibit abortion from conception except in cases where the mother's life is at risk, represents one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country. It criminalizes healthcare providers who perform abortions, imposing severe penalties, including felony charges and substantial fines. This legislation disregards the complexities of individual circumstances and the importance of personal autonomy in healthcare decisions. It fails to account for cases of rape, incest, or severe fetal abnormalities, leaving women and families without options during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. Furthermore, the bill's punitive measures against healthcare providers threaten to undermine the trust and safety of the medical community. I urge you to consider the profound impact this bill would have on the lives of women in North Carolina. Restricting access to safe and legal abortion does not eliminate the need for such services; it only forces individuals to seek unsafe alternatives, putting their health and lives at risk. As your constituent, I ask you to vote against House Bill 804 and advocate for policies that respect women's rights and promote comprehensive healthcare. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I hope you will stand with the people of North Carolina in protecting reproductive rights.
