The current administration surely must be one of the most profligate and wasteful with taxpayer dollars in my lifetime. From the use of federal troops and the National Guard in spurious "law enforcement" endeavors to the destruction of years of medical research through arbitrary research grant cancellation, the disregard for fiscal responsibility and scientific progress is staggering.
The most recent example—halting funding for crucial climate satellites—further illustrates both the waste and the short-sightedness. These satellites, years in the making and indispensable for monitoring climate impacts, provide data that underpins not only environmental science but also national security and agricultural planning. By terminating this program midstream, the administration has squandered decades of investment and undercut America’s leadership in global science and climate monitoring.
I urge you to use your influence to investigate this reckless decision and to help secure protections for federal scientific research that benefits the health, security, and prosperity of the American people. Redirecting funds toward proven, long-term national priorities rather than politically motivated projects is essential to restoring accountability.
