Vote no on HR9495
To: Sen. Scott
From: A constituent in Conway, SC
November 23
This bill poses significant risks to nonprofit organizations and threatens freedom of speech and assembly. The provision allowing the IRS to unilaterally designate groups as "terrorist supporting organizations" and revoke their tax-exempt status is deeply concerning. This vague language could be abused to target legitimate protest movements and dissenting voices. Additionally, revoking an organization's tax-exempt status could cripple its ability to operate and advocate for its cause. Nonprofits play a vital role in our society, often giving voice to underrepresented communities and holding power to account. Stripping their funding undermines democratic principles of open discourse and peaceful assembly. While we all condemn terrorism, this bill goes too far in its potential for misuse against lawful organizations. I urge you to vote against H.R. 9495 to protect civil liberties and the essential work of the nonprofit sector.
