Don't let Google threaten our kids!

To: Sen. Valdez, Rep. Farivar, Rep. Pollet, Gov. Ferguson

From: A verified voter in Seattle, WA

November 4

I am writing today regarding Google's latest threats against school districts everywhere that it will disable search - its primary purpose and feature - if school districts do not integrate AI into their daily use. As a parent, I am watching with horror the negative impacts that AI has on people's brains in real time. And not just children - fully grown adults have outsourced their critical thinking, their creativity, and even their relationships to chatbots pushed on us by these tech megacorporations, who have zero regard for people's well-being as long as they have a healthy bottom line. I am demanding that sanctions be put in place against tech companies generally, and Google specifically, for forcing these technologies onto our most vulnerable members of society. Children should be able to learn, develop, and grow organically, and school districts should not have limitations placed upon the technology they use for instruction just because Google is concerned about its AI profitability. We need laws in place to allow individuals and organizations - including and especially school districts - to opt out of these potentially harmful technologies without losing access to their other existing educational resources.
