Reject anti-democratic voter suppression bill HR 22

To: Rep. Ivey, Sen. Alsobrooks, Sen. Van Hollen

From: A verified voter in Greenbelt, MD

April 9

The "SAVE Act" or H.R. 22, misleadingly branded as an election integrity measure, is an egregious attempt at mass voter suppression that would disenfranchise millions of eligible citizens. Requiring burdensome proof of citizenship bearing an individual's current name for voter registration would create unnecessary obstacles, effectively ending online and mail-in registration options. This discriminatory legislation would disproportionately impact younger voters, voters of color, low-income voters, married individuals who changed their names, and the transgender and non-binary community. Such draconian requirements are unwarranted, as non-citizen voting is exceedingly rare and already illegal with safeguards in place. Clearly, this bill is not about election integrity but rather a thinly veiled effort to silence the voices of marginalized communities. Protecting the sacred right to vote and ensuring fair elections should be the utmost priority. I strongly urge you to reject this undemocratic and unconstitutional legislation that threatens the very foundation of our democracy.
