We need the Voter Empowerment Act of 2026 (H.R. 8078 in the House, S. 4203 in the Senate) to protect and expand voting rights across our nation.
The Voter Empowerment Act would:
✓ Modernize voter registration by requiring states to provide online registration, automatic voter registration, same-day registration, and preregistration for citizens under age 18
✓ Prohibit interference with voter registration by outlawing voter caging—the dangerous practice of removing voters from rolls because mail was returned as undeliverable
✓ Improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities by requiring accommodations in voter registration, polling places, and absentee voting
✓ Expand ballot access by establishing minimum early voting requirements, allowing no-excuse absentee voting, requiring secured ballot drop boxes, and mandating notification when polling places change
✓ Protect voting rights for formerly incarcerated individuals by restoring the right to vote for all citizens not actively serving a felony sentence
✓ Permanently reauthorize the Election Assistance Commission and direct it to provide grants to states for implementing these critical reforms
At a time when partisan efforts to restrict voting access threaten the integrity of our elections, this legislation represents a vital commitment to the principle that every eligible American should be able to cast their ballot without unnecessary barriers. Voting is not a privilege to be rationed—it is the bedrock right upon which all other rights depend.
I urge you to cosponsor the Voter Empowerment Act of 2026 and stand with the millions of Americans who demand a democracy that works for everyone. Please let me know where you stand on this critical legislation.
