STOP the Retaliatory Terrorism by ICE in Maine

To: Sen. Moody, Rep. Webster, Sen. Scott

From: A verified voter in Ocoee, FL

July 22

ICE murdered Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Biddeford. In front of his three year old daughter. The agent who shot him had a long record of domestic violence that should have excluded him from any employment where guns were available. That agent was also not wearing a body cam. And Johan was not even the man with a warrant on him. It's clear that ICE commits more crimes, and graver ones, than the immigrants. And we can all see how ICE activities bring terror, trauma, disruption and deaths. As my senators, you know well that Maine has one of the LOWEST immigrant populations and one of the LOWEST crime rates. Why is ICE present in Maine, and why the surges? Political retaliation. I am grateful to Angus King and Chellie Pingre for their strong stands against ICE violence and illegality. I would even ask Senator Collins to do some things that will actually make a difference for once. For instance: make a public statement of regret for the way you have funded and abetted ICE; use your role as approps chair to hold hearings and issue subpoenas; and make referrals for prosecution for ICE civil and criminal violations. Investigate why the funded baby cameras were not worn, investigate why a known domestic abuser came to be hired. Investigate what sort of training is standard. Investigate which states have the largest ICE presence and why. And: condemn the abuses, make referrals and remove ICE's blank check funding. Silence is compliance. Senator Collins has not done enough.
