I Oppose the Proposed Income Tax Elimination

To: Sen. Hough

From: A verified voter in Springfield, MO

March 17

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed constitutional amendment to eliminate Missouri's state income tax. The resolution passed by the House (98-54) would shift the tax burden from the wealthy onto everyday Missourians through expanded sales taxes. Independent analysis shows that up to 80% of Missourians would end up paying more — not less — under this plan. Only the ultra-wealthy would truly benefit. This is not tax relief. It is a tax shift that will hurt working families, retirees, and middle-class Missourians. I urge you to not support this amendment and focus on tax policies that benefit all Missourians, not just the few at the top.
