Vote to block the Trump administration's illegal restructuring of the US Forest Service. The March 30 plan violates fiscal year 2026 appropriations that explicitly prohibit funding for relocating offices or employees and reorganizing programs. Congress cannot allow the White House to break the law it passed.
This restructuring is already destroying the agency that manages 193 million acres of public land. The Forest Service has lost more than a quarter of its full-time workforce, including 1,400 wildfire-certified employees. Wildfire mitigation work dropped 38% in 2025, and trail maintenance fell to the lowest level in 15 years. Workers were given less than 30 minutes notice before being forced to relocate or resign.
Moving researchers from rural areas where they conduct fieldwork to urban centers puts critical research on fire safety and safety equipment at risk. Consolidating 57 research facilities into a single Colorado site and replacing regional offices with 15 politically appointed state directors will cause chaos, not reform. The American public and our public lands will pay the price for this illegal overhaul.
