Stop abusing federal workers
To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Sen. Van Hollen
From: A constituent in Derwood, MD
February 25
I am writing to formally request Congressional oversight and an investigation into the actions of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), specifically regarding directives influenced by Elon Musk. Recent developments surrounding OPM’s enforcement of these mandates raise serious concerns about potential fraud, waste, abuse, and the creation of a hostile work environment for federal employees. Fraudulent Use of Government Resources: There are indications that OPM may be facilitating directives that serve personal or business interests rather than the public good. If Musk or his associates are leveraging government agencies to impose policies that benefit private entities or deter federal employees from carrying out their duties, these actions could constitute misuse of federal resources. Waste of Taxpayer Dollars: Federal employees are being burdened with arbitrary reporting requirements, such as Musk’s recently imposed email summaries, under threat of job loss. These unnecessary administrative demands divert attention from critical agency missions, contributing to inefficiency and ultimately wasting taxpayer dollars. Abuse of Authority: OPM may be pressuring federal agencies to adopt policies outside the scope of existing regulations, constituting an abuse of power. Government employees should not be compelled to follow directives that lack legal standing. Furthermore, OPM has undermined existing Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) by unilaterally imposing changes that violate negotiated employee rights. This action threatens the integrity of collective bargaining protections for federal workers. Hostile Work Environment: OPM’s actions in enforcing Musk’s controversial mandates have led to workplace intimidation. Employees are being coerced into compliance under duress, violating the principles of a fair and just federal workplace. Targeting and Retaliation: Reports indicate that employees are facing threats of termination or other punitive measures for noncompliance with Musk’s demands. This constitutes workplace harassment and raises concerns about the erosion of employee rights. In light of these pressing concerns, I urge Congress to take immediate action by: Launching a formal investigation into the extent of Musk’s influence over OPM and other federal agencies. Holding hearings to determine whether OPM’s actions violate federal labor laws, the Whistleblower Protection Act, or other statutory protections. Demanding transparency in the decision-making processes that led to the enforcement of these potentially unlawful and unethical policies. I strongly believe that federal employees must be safeguarded from undue political or private-sector influence that compromises the integrity of our government. Your leadership in addressing this issue is essential to ensuring that federal agencies operate within legal and ethical boundaries.
