I’m absolutely against the redistricting scheme that our Indiana government is going to discuss in the coming session.
I have a few reasons. One is that the gerrymandering that will need to occur to make this state have more Republican representatives will make me having access to my lawmaker even more difficult. This flies in the face of our Constitutional.
An example has occurred in the past decade. People in Fredonia, Crawford County were attached to the district that held the city of Bloomington. This is a 1 hour 45 minute drive. My friends in Fredonia were represented by a totally different person than me in Leavenworth and those in Sulphur. There was never any interaction between the Representative and the constituents. We also receive no TV news from Indiana outlets. There are rarely any commercials because we are in the Louisville, Kentucky tv market.
We had no voice or information then and won’t again!
Another outcome of a possible redistricting has happened just in the last shake up in 2020. We in Crawford County were always in Federal District 9. We went to the polls to vote thinking we were still in that area, but we had been moved to District 8 with Evansville with no notification or idea until the election ballot was released for early voting. You can imagine that we the citizens felt confused and ill informed. I worked the polls in that cycle and saw it firsthand.
I can’t imagine what a candidate must think. They have no idea what district they possibly could land! May is only 5 months away!
Trump has very selfish reasons for redistricting, and it has nothing to do with the citizens of Indiana. I know you are informed enough to understand his motives.
Put the people of Indiana first and our Constitution!
