Re: Upholding the 14th Amendment and halting the funding of insurrectionists
I am writing to express my profound alarm regarding the Department of Justice's recently announced $1.776 billion "Anti-Weaponization" fund. It is deeply troubling that taxpayer funds from this unprecedented settlement could be used to compensate, reward, or reimburse the legal costs of individuals who participated in the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the United States Capitol. Using federal dollars to enrich or bail out those who attacked our democracy is not only a gross misuse of public funds but is also a direct violation of the United States Constitution.
The Fourteenth Amendment clearly bars using government funds to pay for claims related to insurrection, making any such payments unconstitutional.
Section 3 (Disqualification): Bars those who engage in insurrection after swearing an oath from holding office. Rewarding January 6 participants violates this framework.
Section 4 (Anti-Rebellion): Explicitly states that all debts or claims incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States are illegal and void. Compensating rioters constitutes a direct violation of this mandate.
I urge you to block the use of the "Anti-Weaponization Fund" (otherwise called the “Thug Fund”) for this purpose and support legislation like the No Taxpayer-Funded Settlement Slush Funds Act to stop this unconstitutional use of taxpayer money.
By the way, why is there always money for this kind of foolishness but not to care for our citizens?
