Investigate Howard Lutnick’s corrupt endorsement of Tesla
To: Rep. Wittman
From: A verified voter in Williamsburg, VA
March 20
I am writing to you to request and urge you to work with your colleagues in the House to investigate Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick for contravening 5 CFR § 2635.702 and remove him from federal service.
On March 19, 2025, Secretary Lutnick explicitly endorsed Tesla Motor Company and urged viewers of Fox News to buy Tesla stock. This is a clear contravention of 5 CFR § 2635.702. The only suitable remedy is to remove Secretary Lutnick from his role and federal service.
5 CFR § 2635.702 is clear that US government officials may not endorse any company or product unless statutorily authorized or as part of agency programs recognizing compliance with standards or achievements supporting the agency’s mission. Neither of these are true in the case of Secretary Lutnick’s endorsement of Tesla.
As one of your constituents, I expect my Congressional representatives — and specifically you as my representative in the House — to ensure ethical standards are upheld by all those appointed to official positions in the government. Secretary Lutnick’s brazen contravention of the statute MUST be investigated and dealt with as a matter of urgency.
