Protect Logan Airport From Federal Coercion Over Immigration Policy
The Trump administration is threatening to withdraw Customs and Border Protection processing from Logan Airport to punish Massachusetts for refusing to turn its civic systems over to federal immigration enforcement. You need to fight this — loudly and immediately. This is not an immigration dispute. It is the federal government holding public infrastructure hostage to extract political compliance from a sovereign state.
Withdrawing CBP from Logan would not just affect undocumented immigrants. It would strand lawful travelers, ground international flights, disrupt cargo, and gut the regional economy — all while the World Cup is bringing millions of international visitors to this country. Travel industry groups including U.S. Travel and Airlines for America have already warned of serious disruption. The threat alone is doing damage.
We cannot appease this. If the federal government can disable an airport to coerce a state on immigration, it can do the same with grants, databases, and courthouse access. The Massachusetts congressional delegation and Governor Healey must treat this as the state-sovereignty and public-infrastructure crisis it is — and make clear that Logan Airport belongs to the civic life passing through it, not to federal enforcement power.
