I am writing to demand that you continue to fund Medicaid. Among other things, Medicaid provides essential health insurance to nearly 18.5 million women across the country. These are mothers, daughters, caregivers, and workers—people who rely on Medicaid for life-saving care, from prenatal visits to cancer treatment.
But now, lawmakers are considering devastating cuts that would strip away this coverage and risk the health and well-being of millions. It is not lost on me that congress is considering cutting Medicaid while supporting tax breaks for the rich. Who runs this country? Who works day in and day out? Who cooks, cleans, builds, and educates America? It’s not the wealthy. Supporting Medicaid and other programs that help everyone who isn’t a billionaire is just common sense. Wealth isn’t a mindset and it sure as heck isn’t an equal opportunity issue. Supporting public programs like Medicaid that directly benefit the poor is a moral judgement not an economic one. Don’t turn your back on the backbone of America - and if you think it’s the billionaires think again.
