Hi- You might think the lack of messages has been because I’m happy with what’s going on. Allow me to clarify: not only am I unhappy, I’m terrified and no longer confident that you have any power or desire to stop our progress towards an authoritarian state. Why am I unhappy? I will identify SOME reasons: - Medicaid cuts affecting my disabled son - Dept of Education closure affecting ability to send my disabled son to school, and his right to a public education - Fears of Medicare shut downs causing my elderly mother to rush surgery while she still has coverage (she’s a cancer and heart attack survivor, so rushing surgery decisions is not in her best interests) - Fears of Social Security payment shutdown, affecting my mother’s ability to pay her MEDICAL bills - Fear of the government ABDUCTING people and sending them to a modern day concentration camp where they will never be heard from again (is the man illegally deported from MD even still alive? We don’t know)! - I am no longer comfortable traveling outside the US, for fear I could not return due to ICE / Customs and Border stopping me because I am not a republican - Fears about being able to travel IN THE USA without my passport. I’m taking my passport with my everywhere because I do not trust my government to protect me from illegal deportation - illegal closing of departments WITHOUT CONGRESS APPROVAL - illegal tariffs without congress approval, tanking my 401k This is a dark time to be alive. I imagine you’re stressed as well. I know I would be, in your shoes. What I want from you is this: so long as we are on a path to an authoritarian state (are we even on a path, or are we just THERE now?), I want you to grind Congress to a halt. Every stalling tactic, delaying procedure, all of it. So long as this continues, I want you to drag the entire thing to a halt. I’m fine with you closing the government, since it’s not doing what it’s supposed to, anyway. If you won’t take a stand to protect my six year old from people who clearly wish him harm, this is the bare minimum. Tina, you’re doing well. Be louder, be braver, and toss a stick into the bicycle spokes of the government. Angie, Amy - be like Tina. Even better, all three of you be like Bernie and AOC. In short: please do something before it’s too late. Come re-election time, I will support the candidate who has done (or will do) the most to fight authoritarianism.
