I'd like to express my continued support for the shutdown, unless meaningful concessions are achieved.
I've heard news that the Democratic coalition is considering capitulating to the president for the promise of a future vote on extending Obamacare subsidies. This is woefully inadequate. This is the one point you have leverage, and you need to extract solid concessions now, because we know promises later are worthless.
Much ado has been made about people starving due to the lack of SNAP benefits. To me it's very clear this is the result of the Republican's intransigence and refusal to actually pay the benefits, despite the emergency fund specifically for that purpose and two legal rulings ordering them to do so. The president is starving his people in order to blackmail the Democrats.
The Democrats should not be constantly capitulating to clean up Republican messes. The Republicans made this mess. Let them fix it themselves. And let the people know who's making the mess.
I heard of a recent offer from the Democrats to continue Obamacare subsidies for one year. That's a deal I could get behind. But just the promise of a vote? That's just giving it away. The continuing resolution IS the vote. Make them vote on it NOW.
Stand strong. Make us proud.
