Pass meaningful federal legislation to oversee artificial intelligence. AI systems are already making consequential decisions about people's employment, credit, housing, and medical care, with no consistent federal standards for accountability or transparency. That gap needs to close now, before the technology outpaces any realistic chance of regulation. Other major economies are moving fast. The EU's AI Act is already in force. Without a federal framework here, we get a patchwork of state laws that corporations will exploit and consumers will lose in. I want to see you co-sponsor or champion legislation that sets clear requirements for transparency, bias auditing, and human oversight of high-risk AI systems.
