Demand Investigation into Senator Scott's Late Trade Disclosures

To: Rep. Frost, Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott

From: A constituent in Winter Park, FL

August 21

I am deeply concerned about the recent revelation that Senator Rick Scott failed to disclose $26 million worth of trades for over a year past the required deadline. This is not a minor oversight, but a serious violation of Senate rules that demands immediate attention and action. The STOCK Act requires members of Congress to report financial transactions within 45 days. Senator Scott's delay of more than a year is an egregious breach of this law, designed to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure transparency. What's more alarming is that these trades involved companies in sectors he directly legislates on, including investments in Utah Transit Authority, County of Will Illinois, and Martin County Florida Health Facilities Authority. This late disclosure raises significant questions about potential conflicts of interest and the use of non-public information for personal financial gain. The magnitude of these trades - $26 million - makes this violation even more serious. It's not just about following rules; it's about maintaining the integrity of our democratic institutions and the trust of the American people. I urge you to call for an immediate and thorough investigation into Senator Scott's late disclosures. We need to understand why these trades were not reported on time, whether there were any conflicts of interest involved, and if any insider information was used in making these investment decisions. Furthermore, I request that you push for stricter enforcement of the STOCK Act and consider supporting legislation that would ban members of Congress from trading individual stocks altogether. The American people deserve representatives who are focused on serving the public interest, not potentially profiting from their position. Time is of the essence. Every day that passes without action erodes public trust in our government. I ask that you raise this issue in the Senate Ethics Committee within the next week and push for a public statement on the commencement of an investigation. The integrity of our legislative body is at stake, and your swift action on this matter is crucial.
