Restore Ohio library funding to protect vital community resources
The Ohio House's draft budget proposal cuts funding for the Public Library Fund (PLF) f rom 1.7% of the state's General Revenue Fund (GRF) to just 1.66%. This reduction would slash millions from library budgets statewide, jeopardizing vital services that Ohioans rely on. Libraries provide internet access, job resources, educational programs for children and adults, and serve as community hubs. Cutting their funding risks reducing hours, staffing levels, book and material acquisitions, as well as forcing closures or consolidation of branch locations. Restore the PLF funding level to 1.75% of the GRF to protect these essential community resources that enhance education, workforce development, and quality of life across Ohio. A strong investment in libraries pays dividends for all our citizens.
