From Russia with Love

Without the ability to vote for our leaders, the heart of what it means to be American, America no longer exists.

As many of us gather around the water cooler to agree or disagree about the ramifications of yesterday’s hearings and Special Counsel Mueller’s testimony, there is at least one issue we should all be able to agree upon: the real border threat to America is not from the south. Rather, it is from the west.

According to the Mueller Report, the Russians began their campaign of electoral terrorism in as early as 2014. Using Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, the Russian entity known as the Internet Research Agency (IRA), began and continued their vexatious stream of misinformation and outright lies through the 2016 election. All in an effort to ensure Trump’s victory on election day. Establishing thousands of accounts on all three platforms, IRA “translators,” posing as Americans, created original content and events meant to widen the chasm of discord between Democrats and Republicans.

According to Special Counsel Mueller’s testimony, although the 2016 election has come and gone, Russia continues to be a threat to us and our democracy with an eye towards 2020. There is a way to safeguard our borders, but only if the Senate puts partisan politics aside.

Among other related issues, H.R. 1 For the People Act addresses voter access, election integrity, and election security. Specifically, H.R.1 would establish provisions related to election security, including sharing intelligence information with state election officials, protecting the security of the voter rolls, supporting states in securing their election systems, developing a national strategy to protect the security and integrity of U.S. democratic institutions, establishing in the legislative branch the National Commission to Protect United States Democratic Institutions, and other provisions to improve the cyber-security of election systems.

American’s right to vote is among our founding principles and one of our most precious rights. Without the ability to vote for our leaders, the heart of what it means to be American, America no longer exists.

Take Action

Reach out to your senators and ask them to encourage Speaker McConnell to bring H.R.1 to a vote. And, if Speaker McConnell refuses, we can remind them that they have the power to plow right through McConnell’s blockade. Send SENATE to Resistbot and encourage your Senator to call for a vote on this vital piece of legislation and pressure McConnell. You can talk to Resistbot on Facebook Messenger, Telegram, or Twitter direct message. If none of those work for you, Resistbot also supports old fashioned SMS: text RESIST to 50409 to get started. It takes 2 minutes to make a difference.
