Prioritize the John Lewis Voting Rights Act

Please prioritize passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act - now more than ever we need to strengthen protection of the vote, the lynchpin of our democracy. We need to strengthen the attorney general’s ability to protect the vote and investigate instances of voter suppression and intimidation, which are on an alarming rise throughout the country. We also need to expand the instances of required federal pre-clearance to prevent states from getting away with chronic and institutional voter suppression. It’s one thing to legalize the vote, but legalization without a clear and heavy hand holding state government accountable for voter suppression is false advertising. The John Lewis Act would give the federal government that strong hand to fight back against voter suppression. It’s absolutely critical to pass this bill as soon as possible.
