Concerning: ABSENTEE BALLOTS
I’m contacting you to express my deep concern for the state of our democracy, specifically pertaining to absentee ballots. Due to the Coronavirus health crisis we are in, Americans are reliant on absentee ballots to vote. Despite filling out the proper paperwork and sending it in well before the due date, my absentee ballot never came. In the weeks leading up to the election I spoke with someone at the Board of Elections in NYC who said my ballot was being sent. As it got closer to the 23rd, I tried to check on the status again... I continually got a busy signal, and when I finally got through I was told to call back in five minutes, and then couldn't get through again.
I am a NYC resident, and today is my Election Day. Due to the Board Of Election’s poor work, I have been stripped of my rights to vote.
This cannot happen again. This cannot happen in November. This is an attack on our rights to vote, and our safety. Our voting system is negligent and so very flawed, and this is only the tip of the iceberg.
I understand that perhaps Board of Election offices across America are understaffed and underfunded... but this is not an excuse for what has happened to me and so many other voters who sought out absentee ballots. How can we change this? What needs to be done? We are living in unprecedented time, and we need action. This MUST change before the Presidential Election. We must be properly prepared to fulfill the increase in absentee ballot requests. Otherwise, do we even have a democracy?
