The SAVE Act would create unnecessary barriers for millions of eligible Americans to register and vote. Requiring proof of citizenship like passports or birth certificates to register places an undue burden, especially on married women whose documents may not match their current names, as well as naturalized citizens, military members, tribal citizens, and those without easy access to these documents. There are already secure systems in place to verify voter eligibility without disenfranchising masses of eligible voters. The SAVE Act is a blatant attempt at voter suppression that disproportionately impacts marginalized communities. This bill does nothing to improve election security and only serves to make it harder for Americans to exercise their fundamental right to vote. I urge you to protect voting rights and reject this harmful legislation by voting no on the SAVE Act. Our democracy depends on free and fair access to the ballot for all eligible citizens.
