I am writing to demand that you fulfill your oath of office by stopping the Executive Branch’s illegal and unconstitutional interference in our elections. The administration’s recent actions are not "policy adjustments"; they are a lawless attempt to seize power that belongs to the States and to Congress under Article I.
As your constituent, I am holding you accountable for the following:
- The Right to Vote is a Property Right: Under the 14th Amendment, my voter registration is a fundamental property interest. This means the government cannot remove it or make it impossible to use without Due Process. By using unreliable federal databases to purge rolls and policing mail-in ballots, the President is attempting to steal a legal right that belongs to me.
- Mass Disenfranchisement Under False Pretense: It is a documented fact that the risk of non-citizen voting is infinitesimally tiny. However, the risk of disenfranchising eligible American citizens through these illegal actions is real and significant. Any legislator who allows this theft of the ability for a citizen to vote to happen under a false pretext is complicit in a betrayal of the American people.
- A Violation of the Oath of Office: Every legislator is responsible for ensuring that all eligible Americans are able to cast their vote. Treating our elections as a game for winning power rather than a system for serving the people is fundamentally un-American. Silence in the face of these illegal acts is a betrayal of your constitutional duty.
I am calling on you to:
1. Publicly declare these executive actions illegal and support litigation to permanently enjoin them.
2. Exercise the Power of the Purse to ensure no federal funds from the DHS, DOJ, or USPS are used to implement these unconstitutional directives.
3. Oppose the SAVE Act and similar legislative attempts to codify these suppressive tactics into federal law.
4. Co-sponsor the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act or similar robust protections to ensure that federal oversight prevents the real and significant disenfranchisement currently being attempted.
I will be monitoring your actions. I expect you to choose your constitutional duty over partisan silence.
