The National Institutes of Health's new grant rules that prohibit recipients from engaging in diversity, equity and inclusion activities are deeply concerning. Promoting an inclusive and equitable scientific workforce is crucial for driving innovation and addressing health disparities. Silencing efforts to create a more diverse research community will only hinder scientific progress and exacerbate systemic inequalities. As a leading funder of biomedical research, NIH should be championing DEI initiatives, not undermining them. I urge you to reconsider these restrictive policies that compromise NIH's mission and stand as a major setback for advancing scientific excellence through diverse perspectives.
