Please Vote No on Pam Bondi
To: Sen. Coons, Sen. Blunt Rochester
From: A constituent in Magnolia, DE
January 11
I’m a constituent writing from 19962. Pam Bondi is a manifestly unqualified candidate for attorney general. Senators should reject her appointment and insist that the role be filled by a qualified person with a demonstrated respect for the rule of law. We should expect an Attorney General Bondi to let corporate wrongdoers off the hook. As Florida attorney general, Pam Bondi sued to overturn the Affordable Care Act, sued to block the ACA ban on health insurance companies price gouging people with pre-existing conditions, and opposed efforts to reduce homeowners’ mortgage loans in negotiations with financial institutions that had engaged in fraud and misconduct. We should expect an Attorney General Bondi to spread false claims about voter fraud and to undermine the Department of Justice’s historic commitment to protecting voting rights. Bondi echoed Donald Trump’s false claims of voter fraud after the 2020 election and has brought lawsuits to restrict voting access. Pam Bondi was one of the election deniers out there very early on in Pennsylvania in 2020 making claims of fake ballots. So if she is going to be the attorney general, what does that mean in terms of how Donald Trump and the Justice Department treat all of those people convicted of assaulting police officers on Jan. 6th? We should expect an Attorney General Bondi to serve as a Trump loyalist and attack dog at the expense of the Department’s independence and integrity. Bondi, you may recall, even helped defend Trump during the first impeachment trial. Bondi, who served as Florida’s attorney general from 2011 to 2019, received a $25,000 contribution to her reelection campaign in 2013 from the Donald J. Trump Foundation. The IRS later fined the foundation for violating campaign contribution law. A month later, Bondi *coincidentally* announced that Florida wouldn’t join other states suing Trump for fraud over Trump University’s marketing of real estate seminars. Bondi also lobbied for Qatar’s embassy while a partner at Ballard Partners, which reported paying $375,000 during a six-month period in 2018 and 2019. The State Department has reported significant human rights abuses in Qatar, including the enforced disappearance of social media users and human rights advocates, arbitrary arrest, gender-based violence and serious restrictions on free expression. Bondi’s lobbying is also disqualifying because Qatar has harbored leaders of the terror group Hamas. And finally, Bondi once persuaded Senator Rick Scott to postpone an execution in order to avoid a conflict with a September 2013 fundraiser she was holding for her campaign - a shameful act for which Bondi later was forced to acknowledge she shouldn’t have requested the delay to avoid the conflict. The bottom line - we should expect an Attorney General Bondi to lead a Department of Injustice. Americans deserve better. In every way, this nomination needs to be stopped. Please vote NO on Pam Bondi.
