Oppose Trump's Military Interventions and Defend Congressional War Powers

To: Rep. Smucker, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Lititz, PA

January 8

I urge you to forcefully oppose the Trump administration's calls for military intervention in Western Hemisphere countries and territories. After ordering a military operation in Venezuela to capture former president Maduro, the administration has escalated threats against multiple nations under what they call a "Donroe Doctrine" expansionist foreign policy agenda aimed at controlling the entire region. The administration's actions threaten our constitutional system of checks and balances. Congress holds the constitutional authority over federal funding and war declarations, yet the executive branch is attempting to bypass this authority through unilateral military action. This undermines our democratic institutions and sets a dangerous precedent for future administrations. Trump has continued efforts to acquire Greenland despite repeated pushback from Denmark and European allies. The administration claims Greenland is necessary for national security and is considering using U.S. military forces to seize the territory. This would upend the NATO alliance and damage relationships with our closest democratic partners. Secretary of State Rubio has led efforts for intervention in Cuba, while Trump has threatened military action in Mexico and Colombia as well. These imperialistic drives damage U.S. relationships worldwide and put American interests at risk. Our security depends on stable alliances and respect for international law, not territorial expansion through military force. I ask that you publicly oppose the Trump administration's calls to take over Greenland, support a War Powers Resolution to block any military intervention without congressional approval, and support a provision in the Fiscal Year 2026 Defense Appropriations bill that blocks funding for military interventions not approved by Congress. Congress must serve as a check on executive overreach by holding firm to its constitutional authority. Additionally, I ask that you support articles of impeachment and move to convict Trump for his repeated defiance of the law. The Constitution provides impeachment as a remedy for presidents who violate their oath of office, and this situation demands congressional action to protect our democratic system.
