An Open Letter

To: Sen. Hawley, Rep. Graves, Sen. Schmitt

From: A constituent in Plattsburg, MO

May 1

Under the War Powers Act of 1973, a president must obtain approval from Congress for the continued deployment of troops in hostilities or must withdraw the troops. Check your calendar, that deadline is TODAY, 1 May 2026. The president has not obtained congressional approval and therefore must cease all hostilities. If you think “ceasefire days” do not count toward the total, you need to make a formal statement so that all your constituents sitting in the region realize that while they remain in danger, you aren’t counting those days. When do you plan to do that? I want an answer! The War Powers Resolution does NOT allow for a “pause” in the text of the law. This is a game you are playing with the lives of our military. It appears you are once again, a doormat, unable to force compliance with the War Power Act. I want to know WHY you can’t call for a VOTE – why?
