A Politico article on January 16, 2026, by Jordain Carney said:
"President Donald Trump is talking about taking over Greenland by any means necessary. Republicans in Congress are trying to scare him back to reality."
They quoted Sen. Thom Tillis: "If there was any sort of action that looked like the goal was actually landing in Greenland and doing an illegal taking ... there'd be sufficient numbers here to pass a war powers resolution and withstand a veto."
I CAN'T BELIEVE THE INSANITY IN CONGRESS.
Congress is claiming they can prevent a Greenland invasion through post-facto legislative action. This is delusional. You cannot prevent something by responding to it after it happens.
The Venezuela operation proved exactly how this works: On January 3, 2026, Trump ordered military strikes on Venezuela. Congress learned about it after forces were already engaged. On January 15—the day before this Politico article—the Senate voted 50-50 on a war powers resolution to stop the Venezuela operation. It failed. Congress couldn't stop an operation even after learning about it, yet now claims they can prevent one they won't know about until it starts.
Stop it how? With legislation they draft after troops land? With votes they take after sovereignty is violated? With a veto override after the invasion succeeds?
This is either:
- Willful delusion about how executive power works
- Performative lying to allies
- Complete institutional failure to grasp that you cannot un-invade a country
Trump campaigned promising to "prevent World War 3." He's now threatening military action against NATO ally territory while Russia issues nuclear warnings about Greenland. Congress is responding with promises of legislation they'll pass after the invasion.
IF WE HAVE ANY SANE REPRESENTATIVES ON CAPITOL HILL, I am hoping that they at least get rational about the danger to Greenland and NATO and the post-World War II order.
