Demand Immediate Impeachment for Unauthorized Military Action in Venezuela
To: Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted, Rep. Joyce
From: A constituent in Willoughby, OH
January 6
I am writing to demand the immediate impeachment of President Trump for his unauthorized military action in Venezuela and the subsequent capture of Nicolás Maduro. These actions represent a flagrant violation of both international law and our constitutional requirement that Congress authorize military operations.
Congress was not notified before this military intervention, violating the War Powers Resolution and constitutional separation of powers. Trump announced at a Saturday press conference that the United States would "run" Venezuela, appointing a small group including Stephen Miller, Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, General Dan Caine, and John Ratcliffe to oversee operations. The White House is now considering an expanded role for Miller, Trump's deputy chief of staff, in Venezuela operations despite his lack of foreign policy credentials and history of inflammatory rhetoric.
Miller previously claimed that "American sweat, ingenuity and toil created the oil industry in Venezuela" and called its nationalization "the largest recorded theft of American wealth and property." This colonial mindset has no place in American foreign policy. The administration's true motives appear centered on seizing Venezuelan oil assets rather than any legitimate national security concern.
Trump is using the American military as his personal force to attack sovereign nations without congressional authorization or international legal justification. Secretary Rubio attempted damage control by clarifying the US would not engage in "day-to-day governing" beyond enforcing an oil blockade, but this admission only confirms the operation's illegal nature. Maduro has been taken to New York on charges, but no legal framework exists for this extraordinary rendition.
These are the actions of an authoritarian dictator, not a president bound by constitutional constraints. I urge you to immediately initiate impeachment proceedings and reassert Congress's constitutional authority over military action. Our democracy depends on checking this dangerous expansion of executive power.
