I am writing to demand urgent action in response to the horrifying reports of immigrant children suffering abuse in ICE detention facilities across the country. The recent revelations of sexual assault and neglect in these camps are not only a national disgrace—they are a direct violation of our most basic human and Christian values. The New York Times has detailed how vulnerable children, many fleeing unimaginable trauma, have been subjected to sexual abuse, violence, and inhumane conditions while in federal custody. This cruelty is unacceptable and must end immediately. As a person of faith, I am appalled that anyone could allow such suffering to continue. The teachings of Christ are clear: we are to care for the stranger, protect the vulnerable, and love our neighbors as ourselves. To permit, ignore, or excuse harm against innocent children is not only immoral—it is complicit in the crime. Anyone who turns a blind eye to these abuses, whether by inaction or by supporting policies that enable them, is aiding and abetting this evil. It is your duty as a representative to hold ICE accountable, to ensure transparency, and to push for the immediate closure of these abusive detention centers. We must treat all children with dignity and compassion, regardless of their immigration status. Anything less is a betrayal of America’s values and the teachings of Christ. I urge you to act swiftly and decisively to protect these children and to end the systemic abuses within our immigration system.
