Demand an End to the DOJ's Erasure of History and Public Records

The Department of Justice is actively dismantling the historical and legal record of the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol. Regulated public archives are not the political property of whatever administration occupies the White House. Quietly scrubbing public websites, altering federal sentencing memos, and removing comprehensive databases of criminal convictions is not an "administrative update" - it is a systemic erasure of public facts intended to rewrite history. Many of you were physically in the building when this attack occurred. You were protected by law enforcement officers who bled to secure the Article I branch of government. To remain silent while an executive agency actively deletes the documented crimes of the individuals who assaulted this Capitol - and blatantly disrespects the sacrifices of the Capitol Police - is an abandonment of congressional authority and a disservice to the public record. This is a dangerous assault on government transparency and the statutory frameworks that protect public information. A functioning democracy cannot allow executive agencies to systematically delete public access to federal court records and convictions. I demand that you exercise your constitutional oversight authority immediately to protect our nation's history: 1. Investigate the DOJ: Launch an immediate congressional inquiry into the Department of Justice’s removal of public records, case summaries, and press releases regarding January 6th prosecutions. 2. Enforce NARA Oversight: Direct the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to investigate potential violations of the Federal Records Act and ensure all original federal prosecution records, sentencing memos, and databases are legally preserved and secure from unauthorized deletion. 3. Defend Public Transparency: Break your silence. Publicly condemn the removal of public-facing government databases and demand that the DOJ restore full public access to the historical records of these federal cases. The preservation of public facts is a cornerstone of the Rule of Law. History will remember what happened on January 6th, and your constituents will not forget your silence if you allow a federal agency to memory-hole the legal record of an attack on our Capitol.
