Repeal Connected Vehicle Rule

To: Rep. Feenstra, Sen. Grassley, Sen. Ernst

From: A constituent in Sioux City, IA

June 25

I am writing to express my intense frustration with current federal policies that insulate American legacy automakers at the direct expense of U.S. consumers. The recent news regarding Polestar exiting the U.S. market after being denied authorization under the Department of Commerce’s Connected Vehicle Rule is the final straw. By weaponizing regulations to block competition, the government is actively stripping American buyers of low-cost, innovative alternative options. True capitalism relies on a free and open market, yet current trade policies protect domestic manufacturers who consistently prioritize corporate profits over genuine consumer benefits. American drivers are facing skyrocketing vehicle prices while being deliberately cut off from the global market. Decisions like banning Polestar do not protect consumers; they actively harm us by eliminating choice and driving up costs. If American automakers cannot compete in a genuinely open global market, the solution is innovation, not protectionism that leaves the public holding the bag. I strongly urge you to reconsider these restrictive barriers, support an open market, and allow the sale of Chinese vehicles and advanced global alternatives in the United States. It is time to prioritize your constituents over domestic automotive lobbies.
