I rarely agree with Gerard Baker of the WSJ but he is correct today in his opinion piece about the war in Iran. 1) The campaign is poorly conceived, planned and executed, and so far is failing. 2) Iran is pursuing asymmetric tactics, avoiding direct confrontation with the U.S. and Israel while exploiting imbalances to its advantage. 3) Signs of U.S. weakness include aggressive retoric from U.S. leaders (threatening “civilizational” destruction) and searching for scapegoats, which Baker says are not behaviors of a confident victor. 4) Recent diplomatic failures and escalation steps like the Strait of Hormuz blockade are tremendous risks without paths to success.
The administration’s biggest foreign-policy action to date is an abject failure, and Congress is aiding and abetting this staggering destruction waste of human life and resources that we cannot afford to squander. Congress must end this NOW.
