No new data centers!
Energy-hungry data centers are driving
Right now, 1,489 new data centers are currently being planned or are already under construction across the country. If they’re completed, they’ll double U.S. data centers’ total combined energy demand by 2028, from 80 to 150 gigawatts, and require about as much energy as the entire country of Spain.
Where is that energy going to come from? And how much is it going to cost us?
Household energy prices are already growing at twice the rate of inflation. We can’t afford data centers driving that any higher. And we certainly can’t afford to build new fossil fuel power plants to meet this data center demand – not when the science shows us we must end our reliance on coal, oil and gas in order to avoid climate catastrophe.
The massive expansion of data centers is happening fast. The recently introduced “Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Center Moratorium Act” would hit pause and give us time to fairly consider the risks to our communities and our climate. I urge you to support the moratorium today.
Sincerely,A Constituent Disgusted With The Way Republicans Are Throwing Away Democracy.
