Stop Ignoring Your Constituents—Do Your Job and Reopen the Government
To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt
From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO
October 30
Why did you run for office if you had no intention of representing the people who elected you? The government has been shut down for a month, and federal employees—your constituents—are struggling without pay while you and your colleagues take yet another recess.
We deserve answers. Why are you refusing to negotiate simply because Speaker Mike Johnson told you not to? Do you think this blind obedience makes you look strong, or do you realize how weak and complicit it appears to the people you swore to serve?
You were elected to lead, not to follow orders from extremists or to protect a man who behaves like a dictator. This shutdown is harming real families, real workers, and real communities—while Congress continues to collect paychecks and evade responsibility.
Is this really the legacy you want? One of silence, cowardice, and complicity? You should be ashamed. Stand up for what’s right, show some moral courage, and start working for the people again.
