Oppose Operation Epic Fury and Unauthorized Military Action Against Iran I am writing to express my strong opposition to Operation Epic Fury, the ongoing military strikes against Iran launched by President Trump without congressional authorization. This unauthorized act of war violates the Constitution and puts American lives at risk while undermining diplomatic progress. The timing of these strikes is particularly troubling. According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the United States and Iran were close to reaching a nuclear deal through negotiations mediated by Oman. Instead of allowing diplomacy to succeed, this military action has destroyed months of active negotiations and eliminated a peaceful path to preventing Iranian nuclear weapons development. Oman's Foreign Minister expressed dismay that serious negotiations were undermined by these attacks. The human cost is already devastating. Reports indicate that a girls' primary school in Iran's Minab County was struck, with Iranian sources claiming dozens of children were killed. At least one civilian died in Abu Dhabi when debris from intercepted missiles fell on a residential area. Iran has retaliated by firing missiles at U.S. military bases across the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Iraq, putting thousands of American service members in danger and risking a wider regional war. This operation follows Operation Midnight Hammer from June of last year, demonstrating a pattern of military escalation rather than sustained diplomatic engagement. The current strikes are expected to last several days and have already provoked Iran's Supreme National Security Council to announce a crushing response, creating conditions for dangerous escalation across the Middle East. I urge you to demand an immediate cessation of military operations against Iran and insist that the administration return to diplomatic negotiations. Congress must reassert its constitutional authority over declarations of war and reject any further military action without explicit congressional approval. The path to preventing Iranian nuclear weapons lies in diplomacy, not in unauthorized military strikes that kill civilians and risk American lives.
