This bill seeks to mandate a period for prayer and reading religious texts in public schools. Allowing such activities would effectively establish a state-sponsored religion, violating the Constitutional separation of church and state. Public schools should remain secular institutions that provide an inclusive, unbiased education without imposing any particular religious beliefs. SB380 undermines the religious freedom of students and families by forcing them to participate in or be subjected to religious practices they may not follow. It oversteps the proper boundaries between religion and education. To uphold religious liberty and maintain truly public education accessible to all, regardless of faith, this misguided bill should be firmly rejected. Instead, the focus should be on improving the quality of academic instruction and ensuring all students have access to a well-rounded, religion-neutral curriculum that equips them to think critically and succeed in our increasingly diverse society.
