The first amendment stands for freedom of speech without reprisal from the government. Antifa stands for Anti-Fascist, meaning standing against fascism. Fascism is an authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology, characterized by centralized autocracy and forcible suppression of opposition. By trying to declare people identifying as anti-fascist as a terrorist group, this proposal is indulging in fascism, something that America has stood against for decades. This proposal makes light of the sacrifice of millions of people across the globe, and of our own veterans and soldiers who lost their lives in the Second World War. This proposal also defies the will of the founding fathers, who wished for all American citizens to be able to speak their minds freely, without fear of government reprisal. I beg you to oppose this motion, which will only take America down a dark and horrid path. America is based on freedom, and this motion is seeking to rename those who wish to stand against something so un-American as a fascist regime as terrorists. Terrorists are people who use unlawful violence and intimidation against citizens in the pursuit of political aims. By identifying a group of people who identify as standing against fascism as terrorists, the government is setting a dangerous precedent against free speech in America.
