I’m writing as your constituent to urge you to sponsor and support legislation that restricts foreign bot activity and coordinated disinformation campaigns on U.S. social media platforms. Foreign influence operations — especially those originating from Russia — have repeatedly used automated accounts to spread disinformation, amplify division, and undermine public trust. These bot networks are designed to destabilize our civic discourse, and they should not be allowed to operate freely in our digital spaces. In addition to introducing new legislation that directly bans foreign bot farms, I’m asking you to support existing bills that address parts of this threat, including: • The Bot Disclosure and Accountability Act, which requires platforms to identify automated accounts and prohibits deceptive bot activity. • The Foreign Influence Transparency Act, which increases disclosure requirements for foreign agents engaged in online political messaging. • The Honest Ads Act, which strengthens transparency for online political ads and makes foreign bot‑driven ad campaigns harder to operate. • The Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation Act, which improves federal coordination against hostile information operations. These bills are important steps, but they do not fully address the scale of foreign bot activity targeting Americans. I urge you to support them — and to go further by sponsoring legislation that directly bans foreign automated influence operations and requires platforms to remove foreign bot networks. Protecting Americans from foreign manipulation online is essential to safeguarding our democracy.
