The removal of the image "The Scourged Back" and other slavery-era items is deeply and profoundly concerning. Already, we are seeing political violence escalate with the Trump administration's policies - so-called "detention centers" for immigration-related issues that resemble the internment camps during World War II; shootings at schools and public places across the nation; and hate crimes against individuals are all increasing. With the removal of historical images like "The Scourged Back", we risk further escalation of political violence. We risk the return to the pre-Civil Rights Era, where races didn't mix and hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan proliferated. Congress has the responsibility and the duty to return these items to national museums, parks, and any other location where they have been ordered to be removed by the president. He has overstepped his role in so many places - we cannot allow him to whitewash the history of this Great Nation. Our Forefathers would be shamefully disappointed in us. Please, find a way for Congress to step in and return these items to museums where they can be observed and learned from - the future of this country depends on it!
