As your constituent, I’m calling on you to speak out against the federal proposal to weaken the Endangered Species Act (ESA) by redefining the term “harm.” This change would eliminate habitat destruction from the legal definition of “take,” making it nearly impossible to protect species from the very thing most responsible for their decline.
This matters deeply at the state level. Our public lands, state-managed wildlife, and ecosystems don’t exist in isolation. Stripping federal protections means states like ours will be forced to shoulder more of the burden—without the regulatory tools or funding to do so.
This is not just bad federal policy—it’s bad for our communities. Weakening the ESA will accelerate biodiversity loss, harm outdoor recreation economies, and limit our ability to preserve natural spaces for future generations.
I’m asking you to:
• Publicly oppose the narrowing of “harm” in the ESA
• Advocate for strong federal protections that align with state conservation goals
• Join with other state leaders to push back against regulatory rollbacks that put local ecosystems at risk
This is a moment for leadership. Please use your voice to defend wildlife, safeguard habitats, and protect our state’s environmental legacy.
