Don’t Give Refugees a Death Sentence

To: Pres. Trump

From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ

April 25

Your administration just made a deadly decision: ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 500,000 migrants and refugees from Afghanistan, Haiti, Venezuela, Cameroon, and other countries living in the U.S. That means thousands of people—including U.S. allies and survivors of war—now face being deported back into violence, persecution, and chaos. It’s cruel, it’s reckless, and it’s happening right now. Afghanistan is still under brutal Taliban rule. Women and former U.S. allies are targeted daily. Cameroon is in the midst of a deadly civil war, with widespread reports of torture, killings, and human rights abuses. Yet you claim these countries and others are now “safe” enough to return to. You're wrong—and lives are at stake. Experts, veterans, and human rights advocates are sounding the alarm. Abruptly revoking Temporary Protected Status for these refugees would be "a morally indefensible betrayal,” said Global Refuge president Krish O’Mara Vignarajah. Afghan Evac founder Shawn VanDiver called it “cruel, chaotic,” and a total abandonment of America’s promises. TPS was created to protect people from exactly this kind of danger. Stripping it away is a betrayal of basic human decency and U.S. commitments. You must act now. Reverse this heartless decision. Restore TPS protections for refugees before it’s too late. I demand justice and safety for refugees.
