Unfortunately, Memorial Day was marred by the Commander-in-Chief's all-caps tirade of anger and falsehoods. Other headlines that upset me: Trump now says he will delay EU tariffs until July 9th. Look, the tariff are bad for the US - but do you know what is even worse? The constant see-saw waffle house of indesicisive policy. It is bad for our foreign relations. It is bad for our public trust in institutions (a matter I researched as part of my University degree- You guys are burning public trust like you don't think it is valuable). Trump's pardoning of Scott Jenkins- Pardoning someone who has been convicted of over accepting $75,000 in bribes should, I suppose, come as no surprise for an administration that is outright dealing in money and bribery for its self-enrichment. Trump administration moves to cancel all federal contracts with Harvard (on top of the refusal to grant visas to foreign students.) Do you know what the reputation of Harvard is in the world - let alone the United States? Do you know WHY foreigners might want to come and be educated there? Do you think that it is easy for them to get in and get access? Do you know the research contributions, legal contributions, and political contributions that Harvard has contributed to our nation in the shaping of people over the last 200 years? It is embarrassing that our president would strike out - ILLEGALLY - at any University, let alone one of the pillars of our National University System. Things that I care about but seem to have fallen off the radar: No one has been properly held accountable for Signal Gate. None of the illegally deported immigrants have been returned. People are still afraid to enter our borders and this will negatively impact both business and tourism. The "Gold Imigration Card" which will just allow more illegal money into the country. The decimation of our security surveillance which is allowing Russia and China access to our systems with orders not to follow up on them. And as always- The despicable anti-democratic stance that this administration is taking on the brutal war being waged by Russia against Ukraine. The only headline that made me smile? The fact that Russia is OPENLY trolling President Trump-referring to his "emotional overload" and yet Trump doesn't seem to get it that he continues to play into Russia's hands and is contributing to PROLONGING the war and senseless attacks on civilians in Ukraine. Please stand up for truth and stop this madness.
