Support the Plug Into the Sun Act (SB 868) for Clean Energy Freedom

To: Gov. Newsom, Sen. Wahab, Asm. Lee

From: A verified voter in San Jose, CA

January 29

I am writing to urge your strong support for SB 868, the Plug Into the Sun Act. As a resident of San Jose, I believe it is vital that California eliminates the unnecessary red tape and utility fees that currently prevent many families from utilizing "Plug-In solar" technology. Unlike traditional rooftop installations, these portable solar panels can be used by both renters and homeowners by simply using a standard wall outlet. This technology offers a practical way to lower monthly electricity bills—potentially saving a household $250 a year per panel—while providing the freedom to generate clean energy without unreasonable interference from monopoly utilities. SB 868 is a common-sense solution that would establish statewide safety standards while ensuring that Californians can power their appliances with the sun without seeking utility permission or paying arbitrary fees. Other regions, like Germany, have seen massive adoption of this technology after removing similar barriers, and it is time for California to lead in making solar energy accessible to everyone. I ask that you represent the interests of your constituents and the environment by supporting the passage of SB 868.
