Vote no on Markwayne Mullin's nomination to lead the Department of Homeland Security. His temperament and judgment disqualify him from overseeing 100,000 employees and agencies responsible for national security and disaster response.
Mullin told Senator Rand Paul he understood why Paul's neighbor attacked him, leaving him with six broken ribs. He called Paul a "freaking snake" after a policy disagreement. This isn't leadership. It's a pattern of aggression that has no place at the head of an agency managing ICE, Border Patrol, TSA, and FEMA.
On the day ICE shot and killed U.S. citizen Renee Macklin Good, Mullin defended the officers and accused Good of using her car as a weapon. He has shown no capacity for the oversight this agency desperately needs after months of chaos under Kristi Noem, including enforcement operations that resulted in two citizen deaths and bipartisan criticism. DHS is currently shut down with over 100,000 workers furloughed or unpaid.
Mullin also trades stocks frequently, including recent purchases of UnitedHealth Group, raising serious accountability concerns for someone overseeing billions in federal contracts.
