Refuse to fund Homeland Security without serious changes to ICE

To: Rep. Kennedy, Sen. Lee, Sen. Curtis

From: A constituent in Springville, UT

January 22

Speaking of refugees, Sister Linda Burton asked the women of the Ch urch to consider, “What if their story were my story?” Elder Patrick Kearon clarified, "Their story is our story, not that many years ago." Have you put yourself in the shoes of immigrants living in the US? Have you put yourself in the shoes of naturalized citizens of the US? Have you put yourself in the shoes of US citizens living in places that are being terrorized by ICE. Thus far, your actions tell me that you have not. I urge you to think of every human living in the US as just that--a human. If those in power, like you, would respect the innate dignity that each person has--that every child of God has--the brutality of ICE wouldn't exit. Until then, we're depending on you to think beyond party politics and respect ALL human life, not just those whose ancestors have been here for more than 3 generations. I beg you to not fund Homeland security until serious changes have been made. Add oversight. Reduce the budget. Add more training and vetting of candidates. Remove the carte blanche of violence without responsibility. This is your responsibility as a politician and a human being.
